Payyambalam
Beach
Quiet, secluded, beautiful, this enchanting sandy beach borders Kannur
- the land of ageless charms. This beautiful stretch of sand and surf
is an ideal place to spend
evenings, irrespective of seasons, because of its quiet and calm environment.
2 kms from Kannur, the Payyambalam beach is a popular
picnic spot of the local people and holds much potential for development
into a tourist resort. Picturesque and incredibly beautiful, the beach
is only walking distance from Fort St. Angelo. Flat laterite cliffs
jut into the sea at one end. The beach is clean and long.
The Naura Cafeteria and well laid out gardens greet
the visitor to Payyambalam. The beautiful beach garden, which, besides
offering a picture-perfect view of the Arabian Sea, provides them with
a plenty of natural comfort. The garden and the massive landscaped sculpture
of mother & child erected by noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman makes
it extremely captivating. The mortal remains of Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna
Pillai, A K Gopalan, K P Gopalan and Pamban Madhavan are laid to rest
near this resort.
The rest of the land - Kannur - is equally fascinating to explore. Being
the cradle of ageless folk arts like Theyyam and folk music, Kannur
has always remained a land of ageless charms.
